Our clients left the city to settle in a home that would capture a serene beauty while being flexible enough to accommodate their visiting children and grandchildren. They wanted the home to be fun and inviting, and for their art collection to inspire the color progressions throughout. Beautiful inherited antiques are mixed with fun transitional pieces for a fresh and updated look. Their playfulness is shown in various details, like the concealed slide in the living room that descends to the basement bunkroom. We took this sense of fun into our design approach, using a neutral palette throughout the house and selected bold colors from the artwork for accents. For example, the high gloss green bar takes its shade from the landscape on the wall and its hardware sets a uniquely sophisticated tone. The lighting throughout was an opportunity for the unexpected, such as the chandelier composed of a burst of butterflies above the dining table. The home presents itself through balance, scale, and tone, providing both the stature to support an art collection, and the tranquility our clients envisioned.
